UM Board of Curators to meet Sunday and discuss indoor football practice facility

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri Board of Curators is set to discuss a new indoor football practice facility in Columbia.

The curators will vote on Sunday whether or not to approve a pre-design of the facility, not approval of the entire project. The meeting is set for 4 p.m.

The resolution argues that the Devine Pavilion, which was built in 1998, is the only indoor practice area for all Mizzou athletic field programs. It goes on to say the facility has "many deficiencies related to the football program, most problematic is the short (70 yards) field."

This could free up the Devine Pavilion more often, benefiting the other sporting programs at the university, according to the resolution.

Construction and operation costs of a new facility could support the economy of the University and mid-Missouri, the resolution argues.

If passed on Sunday, The University of Missouri can start the pre-design and plan for an indoor practice facility, including the project scope, the budget and where the money will come from.

That plan would then be presented again to the curators no later than January 30, so that it can be put in the university's capitol plan.
