Columbia chiropractor’s office and barbershop cited for violating health order
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia/Boone County health department said two local businesses were cited for not following the city's mask order recently.
The notices of violation were sent out to Tiger Barber and Hairstyle Shop on S. Ninth Street and Maxwell Family Chiropractic on Bernadette Drive.
Department officials received complaints that workers at both establishments were not wearing face masks.
According to the notice, the health department received four complaints about the barbershop between Oct. 22 and Nov. 17.
The health department visited the shop on Nov. 3. At that time, department officials said one employee who was within 6 feet of a customer was not wearing a mask.
Health officials visited the barbershop again on Wednesday and said two workers were with customers but neither employee was wearing a mask. The notice said two customers were in the shop and that one was wearing a mask.
When one of the workers was asked about not wearing a mask, the employee claimed to have a health exemption. The same worker said the other employee also had a health exemption.
The officials said no information about the exemptions was provided to the health department.
The barbershop worker included college students have stopped inside the business recently to take pictures of people not wearing masks.
Health department investigators received a written complaint about the chiropractor's office on Nov. 10. The complainant said no employees or patrons were wearing masks after a recent visit.
The notice did not say if department officials visited the business after receiving the complaint.
ABC 17 News reached out to the businesses, both declined to comment on the notices.
