Business owners assessing damages after severe storms hit Osage Beach

Storm damage in Osage Beach

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (KMIZ)

Storms caused severe damage in Osage Beach according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troop F said in a tweet people should avoid the area at this time.

MSHP said no injuries are reported at this time. Crews are still investigating the area to see the scale of the damage in the area.

Osage Beach Police told crews Sunday morning that they were still unaware what caused the extensive damage, winds or a tornado.

The damage caused a traffic backup Saturday night. An employee with Casey's told crews that traffic was stop and go Saturday night, due to residents coming to look at the damage.

Business owners and residents were also at the scene Sunday morning.

Mike Heitman, Owner of the StateFarm agency in King's Plaza said he actually had an employee in the building during the storms.

That employee is fine and she said she felt as though it was just wind and not a tornado.

Heitman said that he wouldn't have been surprised that wind caused extensive damage saying the building wasn't constructed well.

Residents have also been stopping by Sunday morning to examine the damage.

Crews spoke with multiple residents who said they were surprised to see so much damage.

One resident was eating dinner across the street at Mamacita's in Osage Beach and said he had no idea there was a bad storm.

Another resident said she lives about a block down the street, and is grateful their home didn't see any damage.
