WATCH: State health department director says COVID-19 vaccine will be available by December

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri House Special Committee on Disease Control and Prevention heard testimony from the state health department director Tuesday morning.

Health department director Dr. Randall Williams said a COVID-19 vaccine will be available for Missourians in the next four-five weeks.

Williams included the vaccine is coming from Pfizer and that it will be free.

The health director said Pfizer will said an emergency use authorization to the FDA in the next two weeks. Federal officials will then look at how safe the vaccine is and determine if it's okay to use. At that point it could take another two-three weeks before it's approved.

Williams said the vaccine may not be available for everyone until April. He included up to four different vaccines could also be approved by that time.
