October’s wild ride of weather, and what’s ahead for November

October's Wild Ride!

It's typical for fall to bring lots of up and down temperature swings. October 2020 was no expection for mid-Missouri. Temperatures as a whole were pretty cool on average. Even with tomorrow's trend towards warmer weather to close out the month, we'll likely see temperatures run about 1.6º below normal.

Precipitation continues to be a problems as, even with a week of rainy weather this week, we still ran a nearly inch and a half deficit.

I think our weather team used the phrase "temperature rollercoaster" a hundred times in the past week and a half. This is about as classic as one of those gets. Warm weather front-loaded at the beginning of October with a health cold snap, and early snowfall to close things out.

Quiet Weather to Start November

So what's ahead for November?

Here are some thoughts from the Climate Predication Center. For the month as a whole, we're expected to stay drier than normal, with warmer than average temperatures.

Now, that's not to say we won't see colder weather or we won't see any rain at all... but most of the time we'll be mild, and most of the time we'll be dry. With a great week of weather expected next week to start out the month, a few points will definitely be placed in that CPC outlook.

Big Changes by Mid-Month?

However, we all know mother nature can bring the swings in November. While next week looks to be relatively benign in the weather department, big changes look to arrive by the November 10th timeframe.

It will come in the form of a pretty powerful trough across the western U.S.

It's hard to say the exact impacts on what it will have on our weather... but I would be willing to bet after quiet weather next week, we'll probably have some sort of active weather to track after next weekend.
