SATURDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports 39 new COVID-19 cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 8:00 P.M.: The Columbia/Boone County Health Department has reported 5,888 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are currently 367 active cases.

The department reported 39 new cases on Saturday.

On Saturday there were 16 Boone County residents hospitalized with the virus. There were 28 people in Boone County ICU's.

The five-day average of cases on Saturday was 52.

ORIGINAL: The Department of Health and Senior Services added 2,918 new cases of COVID-19, 113 deaths, and 24,470 tests on the state dashboard.

Those numbers do not reflect what happened in the last 24 hours.

According to a press release, the department received a high number of test and case numbers on Thursday and Friday which led to a high day-over-day increase in total cases and tests.

The press release clarified the tests took place from Oct. 18-22 and were processed on Friday.

DHSS linked 108 COVID-19 deaths to their appropriate cases on Friday, and several of those were reported on the dashboard Saturday morning.

Two of those deaths occurred in August and 26 occurred in September. Eighty of the deaths occurred earlier this month.

The department has reported 75 deaths in the last seven days and 10,881 new cases in the past seven days.

DHSS also reported 110,179 tests in the past seven days.

As of Saturday there have been 167,452 cases to date and 2,801 deaths to date.
