Tracking near-record temperatures Thursday, storms by Friday

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy and cool with temperatures increasing into the upper 50s to around 60 overnight. Showers stay mainly north.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the low to mid-80s. Record high temperatures will be in jeopardy. Wind gusts reach 25 mph from the south/southwest.

EXTENDED: A cold front to our west will slide into northwest Missouri tomorrow night, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms late into the evening through Friday morning. A few of the storms could be on the stronger side across western Missouri, with winds between 40-50 mph and small hail. Rain continues through mid-late morning Friday, tapering off through the afternoon. Temperatures fall through the day on Friday, starting out in the mid-50s and falling into the low 40s by late afternoon. Saturday will bring a bit more sunshine, but will still be cool behind the front with highs in the low 50s. Another cold front arrives on Sunday, bringing a chance for showers but slightly more mild temperatures as highs reach the mid-upper 50s. Rain continues into Monday, but even colder air starts to filter in later on Monday afternoon and evening. If precipitation lingers, there's a chance some of it could fall as a wet wintry mix toward late afternoon or evening depending on the timing of cold air. We'll be closely monitoring this push of cold air as trends continue to be consistent. Temperatures during the day on Monday will reach the low to mid-40s, with mid-upper 40s expected through Wednesday.
