Power restored in central Columbia

Power was restored just after 6: 10 p.m.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

More than 800 Water and Light customers in central and downtown Columbia lost power Thursday afternoon, according to Columbia Water and Light's online outage map.

The map showed six separate outages clustered roughly between Business Loop 70 and Rogers Street near Columbia College. The outages affected 86 customers just before 5 p.m.

By 5:15 more outages appeared on each side of Broadway downtown affecting close to 900 customers.

The cause of the outages was not immediately clear. Water and Light said in a Facebook post that the outage was affecting some traffic lights.

Boone County emergency dispatchers issued an alert about traffic congestion downtown caused by the outages.
