Jefferson City Correctional Center employee arrested on suspicion of drug possession

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City Correctional Center employee was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having drugs inside the prison, according to the Cole County Sheriff.

Deputies say the employee had methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana, also called K2, wrapped in plastic for distribution.

A release from the sheriff's office said deputies and members of the Mustang Drug Task Force responded to the prison for a drug investigation.

Sheriff John Wheeler said a 39-year-old female employee was found in possession of 39 grams of meth and about 1 pound of K2.

The sheriff said the drugs were "smuggled into the prison" and that the employee was arrested on suspicion of delivery of a controlled substance.

Charges were sent to the Cole County Prosecutor's Office, according to the release.

Wheeler says the investigation is ongoing.
