MoDOT releases details regarding 2021 I-70 bridge rehabilitation in Boone County
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri Department of Transportation says repairs and updates will be made to the I-70 bridges over Perche Creek next year.
MoDOT says this is regular maintenance procedures that include replacing expansion joints, reinforcing the substructures, and applying a protective coat that will shield the bridges from weather and erosion. These improvements will extend the life of the bridges by at least 25 years.
Both bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
The existing eastbound Perche Creek bridge was built in 1958 and the existing westbound bridge was built in 1940. Traffic on each bridge averages about 23,000 vehicles per day.
Construction is expected to take place in 2021. The project will be completed by a contractor for MoDOT and is scheduled to be opened to bids in February.
Once construction begins, one bridge will be under construction at a time and I-70 will be open to traffic in both directions throughout the project. Individual lane closures and some ramp closures will be required while work takes place. Specific closures and detour information will be announced through signs, media releases and social media when a timeline for the project has been established.
