Centralia police officer accused of soliciting sex with child online
Federal prosecutors have charged a Centralia police officer with trying to have sexual contact with a minor using the internet.
Clint Baer, 41, of Centralia, was charged Tuesday in a federal complaint with using interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
Baer is accused of communicating with an FBI agent posing as the mother of a 14-year-old girl through the social networking site FetLife, which caters to people with sexual fetishes, according to a news release from the office of the U.S. attorney for Missouri’s Eastern District.
Baer exchanged “sexually detailed and explicit” texts and phone calls via FetLife and a messaging app called Kik with the undercover agent in which he expressed a desire to have sexual contact with the mother and the 14-year-old child, according to the release. Baer contacted the undercover agent to set up a rendezvous on Oct. 1, according to the release, and went to Wetnzville, Missouri, on Monday for the meeting.
Authorities arrested Baer in Wentzville and he was in federal custody Tuesday.
Centralia Police Chief Bob Bias said Baer was fired Tuesday morning. He began working for the department in 2017.
