Employees to return to Truman Building after battle with bed bugs

Employees will return to work at the Harry S Truman State Office Building in Jefferson City on Thursday after a battle with bed bugs, according to the Office of Administration.

ABC 17 News reported Wednesday that bed bugs were found in a second-floor office of the building.

A spokesperson with the office said employees in four suites worked remotely Wednesday so that dogs could search the area for bed bugs. The dogs re-inspected the area around where the bed bugs were initially discovered and no new bed bugs were detected.

The spokesperson said employees can return to work Thursday as usual. Ten certified exterminators will apply chemicals for long-term treatment in the affected suites on Saturday.

A custodial contractor has been vacuuming the second floor at night and setting out glue traps, according to officials.

The Office of Administration said it will continue to monitor the situation and assess accordingly.
