JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was injured during a Jefferson City fire Friday.

The Jefferson City Fire Department said crews were sent to a house fire in the 400 block of Marshall Street a little after 7:30 a.m. The front bedroom was in flames when firefighters arrived, the department said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in 10 minutes but stayed at the scene for an hour and a half. The bedroom had fire damage and the first floor had "significant smoke damage," the fire department said in a news release.

One person in the home had minor injuries.

The fire department said the fire was caused by careless smoking.

The American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary shelter and other needs, the fire department said.
