Illinois man accused of Kentucky murder arrested in Columbia

An Illinois man charged with murder in Kentucky was arrested in Columbia recently.

Authorities say Christopher Howard, 31, of Cairo, Ill., was arrested without incident at a residence in Columbia Tuesday morning.

Mike Stokes, spokesman for the US Marshals Office in the Western District of Missouri, said marshals worked with Boone County sheriff's deputies and Columbia police officers to arrest Howard.

A news release from the Paducah, Ky. Police Department reports five people were shot on Aug. 8 at 11:50 p.m. during Emancipation Day festivities in Paducah.

According to the press release, there is an on-going, violent feud between two groups of people from Mounds, Illinois, and Cairo, Kentucky.

According to Paducah Police, the group of people had a verbal exchange occur before a shootout occurred.

According to police, Keyshawn Childress, 32, of Mounds, IL, was pronounced dead on scene, another man was taken to an out of state hospital with critical injuries, and three people were taken to a Paducah hospital reportedly in stable condition.

Howard is charged with murder, four counts of first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and three counts of first-degree criminal mischief according to an updated press release by the Paducah Police.

A second man was arrested in connection to the shooting.

In a separate press release, Lexington Police arrested 47-year-old Myree Marshall, of Paducah, on warrants charging him with two counts of first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Marshall is accused of shooting two people in the incident.
