VANDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Audrain County sheriff's deputies arrested a man Tuesday on suspicion of enticing children at a Vandalia residence recently.

A release sent out from the sheriff's office Tuesday night said 71-year-old Ronald Leake is a registered sex offender in Missouri.

According to the announcement, Leake asked three children on Sunday if they wanted to go with him to his residence in exchange for food and money.

Deputies said the children told an adult and the person allegedly refused Leake's offer.

Sheriff's deputies from Audrain County and Ralls County met Leake at his residence on Tuesday and he was arrested on suspicion of being a sex offender within 500 feet of a public park.

The release said county residents can report crimes anonymously with Crimestoppers at (800) 392-TIPS or (800) 392-8477, or by going on the sheriff's department website.

As of Wednesday morning, no criminal charges have been filed against Leake, according to online court records.
