County clerks check-in as absentee in-person voting kicks off

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The first day for absentee in-person voting kicked off Tuesday.

County clerks across Mid-Missouri said as of 10 a.m., voters were already lined up to cast their ballots.

Cole County clerk Steve Korsmeyer said the day was off to a busy start.

"We've been working on trying to get our mail outs ready to go," Korsmeyer said. "So we've been processing those, have a couple extra staff members we brought in to help with that, so very busy morning, we're excited and and having fun."

Boone County clerk Brianna Lennon says if you do register to vote absentee, make sure to get your ballot in as soon as possible.

"If you are planning to vote by mail, if you're planning to request an absentee ballot or a mail-in ballot, do it early," Lennon said. "It works much better if you don't delay."

Lennon says turning in your ballot early gives her team time to help.

"We have time to reach out to you, help you correct any mistake that you have," Lennon said.

Tuesday also marks the first day that mail-in ballots will be sent out to voters.

The deadline to register to vote for the November General Election is Oct. 7. The last day to request a mail-in ballot is Oct. 21.
