Columbia Police release more information on suspect that caused standoff

UPDATE 8:45 P.M.: Columbia Police released more information on the man they arrested after a chase and standoff this afternoon.

Officials say 31-year-old Tori Rose was wanted for first degree burglary, domestic assault, stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle, two counts of felony resisting arrest and a federal weapons charge before today.

Columbia Police intially responded to a burglary on the 400 block of College Ave when they observed Rose as a person of interest. Rose then left the scene in a vehicle before running away to area apartments.

The standoff occurred after Rose barricaded himself in a residence.

Rose surrended after law enforcement used tear gas after two and a half hours of negotiations with the Patrol and Street Crimes Units.

UPDATE 7 P.M.: Columbia Police arrested a man after a chase and standoff Wednesday before 6 p.m.

Officials continue to clear the scene.

Columbia police were negotiating with a man holed up in an apartment building on College Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, who was wanted on several felony warrants, ran into an apartment building in the 400 block of College Avenue, a Columbia Police Department spokeswoman said. Police were negotiating to get him to surrender, she said.

Police say the man is armed and dangerous.

Officers used tear gas a little after 4 p.m.

Boone County emergency dispatchers said in an alert earlier Wednesday that College Avenue was closed between Paris Road and Walnut Street because of a "police situation."

The southbound lanes reopened just before 3 p.m.
