Isolated flash flooding possible late tonight

Light rain and gloomy skies have been plaguing Mid-Missouri for most of Friday, but storms increase in coverage overnight into Saturday morning along a pre-frontal boundary draped north to south across the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from 7PM through 10AM Saturday for the potential of isolated flash flooding for Boone, Audrain, Callaway, Monroe, and Montgomery counties.

Thunderstorms will begin to ramp up near this boundary after sunset, bringing high rainfall rates and the potential of 1-2" of rain through morning. Isolated areas of 3" will be possible with stronger thunderstorms.

Severe weather is not expected, but road conditions could quickly become dangerous especially at night. If you encounter a water-covered road, turn around and seek an alternate route, or try to postpone your plans until Saturday morning.

Thunderstorms are expected to exit early Saturday, leaving us with cloud cover for the afternoon.
