Tracking spot storms tomorrow, much cooler weekend

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and muggy with lows in the low 70s. Rain chances stay fairly slim.

TOMORROW: The remnants of tropical storm Laura will track across far southeast Missouri, keeping cloud cover over our area. Some of the outer bands of this system will bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms for places east of Highway 54 and farther southeast. Highs remain in the upper 80s with heat indices in the mid-upper 90s.

EXTENDED: As soon as what's left of Laura moves out, we'll be tracking a cold front that will bring active or even severe weather to the upper Midwest during the day on Friday. This front moves into Mid-Missouri from the north late Friday night into Saturday morning, giving us a chance for isolated storms through daybreak. Overall, the cooler air will be the main takeaway from this front. Highs fall into the low 80s for highs over the weekend. The front will settle across southern Missouri through late Sunday, moving back north into Sunday night and Monday. Showers and thunderstorms become more widespread early on Monday, bringing steady rainfall. The front stalls right across central Missouri through Wednesday, bringing repeated chances for rain and storms. The severe weather risk looks low, but rain amounts could reach in excess of 2" for much of the state. We remain cool as the jet stream funnels in cool air from the northwest. Highs will stay in the upper 70s to around 80 each day.
