Boone Electric reports hundreds of customers without power
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone Electric Cooperative reported more than 700 customers without power Monday afternoon as storms dumped heavy rain and small hail on Columbia.
The utility reported 747 customers without power at about 3:30 p.m. in a dozen outages that struck areas of Columbia and more rural areas east, west and north of the city, according to Boone Electric's outage map.
The outages were caused by the storms, the utility said on social media.
Columbia Water and Light also reported outages -- two of them affecting nearly 60 customers. Weather was listed on the city's outage map as the cause of the largest outage, located north of Interstate 70 near the city's western boundary.
Emergency officials also sent out an alert saying that flooding had closed Vandiver Drive at Sylvan. A trained weather spotter reported flooding on Paris Road near Brown Station Road to the National Weather Service at about 4 p.m.
Much of central Missouri remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. The line of storms also caused afternoon severe thunderstorm warnings in area counties including Cooper, Howard, Morgan and Randolph.
The National Weather Service also issued a flash flood warning for much of central and northern Boone County until 9:45 p.m.
