Taste of fall looks likely next week

We've gotten a break from the 90s this week but the humid, muggy weather has held on strong. That's set to change as a strong cold front is set to burst south through mid-Missouri Sunday night.

Much drier air will help us cool off into the 70s for highs with lows into the mid-to-upper 50s-- parts of the upper Midwest will flirt with the upper 30s some mornings!!!

As of right now, the coolest of the mornings looks to be next Tuesday as high pressure gets firmly snugged into place across a majority of the middle of the nation.

Well... that seems fast. Right?

It feels like we've barely had any summer to deal with. For the most part, we've been about average through June and July. We've managed to get some hot weather here and there, but nothing that's been terribly long-lasting.

While it feels like it's a bit early for this type of a "chill" when we look at the starts-of-August in the past, 50s and even 40s aren't out of the question!

As recent as 2017, we saw a similar early-month cool down where temperatures dipped to 52º on the morning of August 5th. In the last 30 years, our coldest early-August morning was on August 6th, 1994 when the mercury dropped to a jacket-grabbing 49º.

For the summer lovers... never fear

Seasoned mid-Missourians are well aware of the tricks Mother Nature plays this time of year.

We still have second Summer, second fake Fall, third Summer, and the how-in-the-heck-is-the-heat-index-still-100º-in-September phase before the scale finally tips down to "true" fall in October.

(Maybe... Who knows. 2020 has been a strange one.)
