Patrol sends Pettis County deputy shooting case to prosecutor

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The investigation into a deadly Pettis County deputy-involved shooting is now in the hands of a prosecutor for review.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop A tweeted that the Division of Drug and Crime Control sent its work to Pettis County Prosecutor Phillip Sawyer.

The patrol has been looking into the killing of 25-year-old Hannah Fizer since June 13. A Pettis County sheriff's deputy shot her during a traffic stop on Highway 50 in Sedalia.

Community members have called for the sheriff's office to release the name of the deputy involved, but Sheriff Kevin Bond has not done so yet. Bond said he placed the deputy on administrative leave following the shooting.

Bond said the traffic stop escalated after Fizer allegedly threatened to shoot the deputy. The patrol said investigators did not find a gun in Fizer's car after searching it. Court documents show that nearby business surveillance footage recorded the stop, which the patrol said shows the deputy take out his gun, Fizer move within the car and the deputy shoot.
