SUNDAY UPDATES: New COVID-19 cases reported in Boone County over holiday weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE: The Columbia/Boone County Health Department reported Sunday there were new cases of the virus reported over the Fourth of the July weekend.

There were 18 new cases reported on July 4, and 20 new cases reported Sunday.

The total number of cases in Boone County is now up to 498.

Of those 498 cases 166 are active.

ORIGINAL: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported an increase of 221 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

The total number of cases of the virus in the state now sits at 23,436.

The department also reported one new death from the virus, bringing the death toll up to 1,028.

At least 419,509 people in Missouri have been tested for the virus.
