Parts of Mid-Missouri under flash flood watch

Several counties in Missouri including Boone, Moniteau, Cole, Callaway, Osage, Gasconade, Montgomery, Audrain and Monroe are in a flash flood watch.

The watch goes into effect at 7 p.m. Monday and continues through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service says 1 to 3 inches is possible.

Caty Luebbert, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Management Agency, said SEMA was on a level 3 partial activation Monday.

Level 3 prompts SEMA's basic support functions, including planning and logistics for the emergency and specified state agencies, depending on the threat.

Flooding is the deadliest severe weather hazard in Missouri, according to the State Emergency Management Agency website. Most deaths happen during flash floods when people are in vehicles, the site says.

From 2015 through 2019, 80 percent of Missouri's flooding deaths had been from people in vehicles, according to SEMA.
