Columbia police detain boy in BB gun incident

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police say they detained a 12-year-old boy on suspicion of assault Thursday night in south Columbia.

Police said in a news release that the boy is suspected of fourth-degree assault for allegedly threatening another person with what appeared to be a real gun in the 2000 block of Arlene Drive, just off Scott Boulevard. Investigation showed it was a BB gun, police said.

The boy was released to his guardian, police said.

It isn't clear whether the incident is linked to shots that were fired in the same area early Friday morning. Police found evidence of at least 30 rounds being fired from a gun at the scene.
