Cases of protesters hit by vehicles forwarded to Boone County prosecutor
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police said Friday that they have submitted reports to the Boone County prosecutor's office in the cases of two protesters hit by vehicles and are now investigating further.
The incidents took place nearly 40 minutes apart at Providence and Broadway in downtown Columbia on June 1. A 25-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle in the first incident and a 21-year-old woman was hit in the second incident.
The Columbia Police Department in a news release Friday said the department submitted information about the case to prosecutors on Monday.
A replay of a live report during one of the pedestrian crashes is available below.
"The prosecutor’s office has requested additional information and a Columbia Police detective has been assigned to the investigation," CPD said in the release.
At least two people have been charged with crimes related to the protests. County prosecutors charged Jeffrey Cotton last week with unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly setting fires at a protest June 1 after protesters damaged his vehicle.
Columbia's municipal prosecutor charged Sebastian Tucker with careless driving and resisting arrest Friday. Tucker is accused of driving on the sidewalk around a group of protesters downtown.
