JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 90-year-old driver suffered only minor injuries Thursday after his car went in reverse across Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City and crashed into a retaining wall.

The crash happened at about 9:50 a.m. when Emmett Hood of Jefferson City hit his gas pedal instead of his brake when leaving O'Reilly Auto Parts, Jefferson City police said in a news release.

The car went across Missouri Boulevard in reverse before going off the road, hitting a concrete retaining wall and overturning, police said. The car came to rest on its top on the retaining wall.

Hood was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. He was in stable condition, according to the release.

Police said the crash response closed eastbound Missouri Boulevard for about an hour.
