Sheriff’s deputies, SWAT clear scene in Cole County

COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Cole County Sheriff's Department cleared the scene after responding to a barricaded person early Wednesday.

According to Sheriff John Wheeler, deputies originally responded to the 4900 block of Westport Dr. to check on the well-being of an individual.

Wheeler tweeted around 2 a.m. that the crisis negotiation team and SWAT were at the scene.

We are out in the 4900 block of Westport Drive with a barricaded subject. Our Crisis Negotiation Team, as well as ,SWAT is on scene. More information will follow.

Around 4:45 Wednesday morning, Wheeler tweeted that the scene was clear. Wheeler told ABC 17 News that authorities made entry into the home and took the person into custody without incident.

We are clear from Westport Drive. One in custody and a 357 handgun seized. Subject was transported for a fit for confinement and will be taken for a 96 hour mental commitment later this morning.
