Tracking rounds of storms, heat, and humidity over Memorial Day weekend

Stubborn clouds have plagued Mid-Missouri over the last several days thanks to slow moving low pressure that has drifted to our southeast.

We begin to see a change in our weather pattern by Friday with this low affecting us less as we approach the weekend. Our upper level pattern with shift with southwest wind flow, increasing moisture and temperatures, along with sending disturbances our way. This big shift will allow temperatures to rise into the 80s for the weekend into next week, and increase our chances for storms.

One of these disturbances will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday, potentially in two rounds. Early afternoon storms may make it hard for any evening storms to organize and become strong or severe, but if the environment can recover, scattered storms with heavy rain and isolated gusty winds will be possible.

By Saturday, a warm front will begin lifting north, upping our temperatures into the 80s. Saturday is looking mostly dry, but any storms that do develop could do so very quickly given the amount of instability available. A washout isn't expected, but a few storms may be on the stronger side. Brief heavy rain and isolated gusty winds would be the main concerns in any intense storms.

A cold front will begin cutting across the state late on Sunday into Monday, triggering more widespread showers and thunderstorms.

Rain amounts will range from 1" to about 1.5" through early Wednesday.

The pattern continues to look active and warm with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s into next week.
