State awards two Mid-Missouri cities money for sewer projects
HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. (KMIZ)
The state awarded two Mid-Missouri cities grant money to help with sewer connection projects.
This week the Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded Holts Summit a $1 million grant to help the city to connect the wastewater flow from Callaway Hills Elementary School to the city’s wastewater treatment system.
According to a news release, the grant will fund all of the eligible construction costs for the project, which is expected to be done by April 2022.
The news release included a statement from the city administrator.
“This grant allows us to serve a school in our community while eliminating tens of thousands of dollars in upgrades to an aged treatment works,” said Holts Summit City Administrator Hanna Lechner. “With this grant we will be able to assist other areas of need in our area and the school will be able to save precious funds to be used to benefit the student as well as free up land for future growth of the school.”
The state also awarded Moberly with a $950,000 grant that will allow the city to connect wastewater flow from two mobile home parks to the city’s wastewater treatment system. The project involving Moberly Mobile Home Park and Fox Hollow Mobile Home Park is also expected to be finished by April 2022.
“We are happy to better serve taxpayers by using existing infrastructure to expand our services to those in need of new and updated services outside the city limits” said Mayor Jerry Jeffrey.
The money in both cases comes from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Regionalization Incentive Grant program.
According to the state, the program is competitive and offers funding to cities as an incentive to build connections for “small, struggling facilities.”
