Showers this evening, Severe weather risk Thursday

THIS AFTERNOON: A warm front lifting north is sparking off showers and a few thunderstorms. Expect temperatures in the mid 50s rising into the low 60s by evening.

TONIGHT: Temperatures hold in the upper 50s and low 60s overnight. They may even rise a degree or two through sunrise. It will be muggy by morning.

EXTENDED: It will feel different waking up Thursday morning, with some warm, moist air returning to Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will get back into the 70's by the afternoon, priming the atmosphere for storms. We've issued a Weather Alert Day with strong storms expected to develop along a frontal boundary toward Thursday evening. Timing is still flexible, but storms could move in as early as 5PM but might not enter the viewing area until the overnight hours. When they do, all modes of severe weather are on the table. Showers and storms will likely last into the Friday morning hours and will want to redevelop by the afternoon. That keeps rain chances around the area to close out the week and likely into the weekend. Timing is still up in the air, but temperatures look to be getting into the mid to upper 70's each day.
