JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A truck driver was injured Tuesday when a wind gust helped blow his trailer over as he was merging onto Highway 54.

The Jefferson City Police Department said the crash happened at about noon when the truck driven by Gaylon Eggen, 61, of Jefferson City was getting onto Highway 54 from Highway 94.

The trailer's load shifted and it was hit by a gust of wind, causing it to overturn, police said. The truck slid across all three lanes before being stopped by median cables.

Eggen was taken to a hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Traffic was affected for about three hours, police said.
