Columbia salon owner reacts to new guidelines

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

ABC 17 spoke with Constance Parker, owner of Green Meadows Salon in Columbia just hours after the city released an update about businesses re-opening.

The update laid out a lot of new updates as well as guidelines for assorted local businesses. For salon's like Parkers, the update will allow her to re-open as long as the property has less than ten people inside.

The re-opening plan mentions salons specifically and instructs business owners to have only one person deal with one customer.

The city went on to add that this one customer, one employee policy is going to be implemented in all areas possible in an attempt to limit who both customers and employees come in contact with.

The salon is going to adhere to social distance guidelines by only allowing one customer in every other chair, removing the waiting room completely and having customers wait in their car, as well as enforcing a mandatory mask policy as soon as both customers and employees enter the building.

Parker said even with the salon taking these measures, some employees at her business simply aren't comfortable returning to work just yet.

Parker has been understanding, and is going to allow those employees to wait a few more weeks before asking them to return.

The salon has already seen an uptick in their business. Green Meadows says they already had upwards of 70 customers that missed their scheduled appointments and they will get first priority when the business re-opens.

This has caused a back up for the salon, and Parker says that they are already having to schedule appointments for June.
