One man in custody after north Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police arrested Donald Eugene Hammers, 38, after he shot from a vehicle window in north Columbia.

Police responded to the 5400 block of Baseline Place around 11:30 p.m. Friday after several people reported hearing gunshots.

When officers arrived they spoke with a woman who was involved with the incident. The woman told police she felt threatened when Hammers hesitated to leave the residence.

She then told police Hammers shot from his vehicle window and she returned fire before Hammers fled the scene.

Officers did locate evidence that shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

Officers later located Hammer's vehicle on Brown School Road near Rangeline Street and attempted to pull him over.

He eventually stopped on Rangeline Street south of Brown School Road.

Hammers resisted arrest and was bitten by a K-9. Officers took him to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Police later arrested Hammers for first degree domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, three count of endangering the welfare of a child, armed criminal action, and felony resisting arrest.

The investigation in ongoing.
