Callaway County voters approve law enforcement sales tax propositions
CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Voters in Callaway County approved two half-cent sales tax propositions on the ballot Tuesday that, if passed, would increase law enforcement pay and fund capital improvements for criminal justice centers. Voter turnout was at 15.26 percent.
Proposition 1 passed 3,099-1,129, or about 72 percent in favor and will allow the Callaway County Sheriff's Department to hire more deputies, investigators and raise salaries to a more competitive level.
Proposition 2 passed 2,616-1,697, or about 61 percent in favor and will fund building a new Callaway County Justice Center, expand the Callaway County Law Enforcement Center and transition the existing courthouse into a County Government Center.

The county currently has 28,331 registered voters and had 4,320 voters cast a ballot Tuesday, according to Callaway County Clerk Ronda Miller.
