Tracking a freeze chance tonight

TODAY: Clouds remain on Friday morning and likely stick around most of the day. Temperatures in the 40s at sunrise will only climb into the 50s by the afternoon, thanks to overcast skies for most of the day. This afternoon, skies may clear in the northern to central parts of the region, setting us up for a cooldown overnight. Winds from the north through the day continue to support this cooldown overnight, though weakening with time.

TONIGHT: High pressure keeps us clear in some spots and relatively calm overnight. This brings a chance for a freeze area-wide. Where skies are clear for the first half of the night, chances are best for a freeze. In the southwest, the slow clearing and return of higher-level clouds may fight the cooldown a bit. This leaves many in the southwest with a likely frost, but a questionable freeze chance.

EXTENDED: Either way, it's a cold start on Saturday, and likely the coldest morning of the season so far. Skies are mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Saturday; likely bright enough for sunglasses, and cold enough for a heavy jacket. Saturday's high is forecast in the low 50s. Sunshine dominates the forecast ahead, with dry weather forecast through the weekend. It's another close call with a freeze on Sunday, with widespread frost likely. Highs return to the 60s Sunday through the rest of the forecast.
