Tracking more clouds and a weekend freeze

TODAY: Thursday is dry and bright to start, but clouds increase throughout the day. A few sprinkles may come from these clouds. With temperatures in the low 40s to start the day, we will likely have high temperatures in the 50s. Skies may become mostly cloudy by the early afternoon. This is most likely north of I-70.

TONIGHT: Clouds are likely to stay overnight. A weak cold front will turn winds in from the north, dropping lows into the low 40s. Sprinkles remain possible overnight and into Friday.

EXTENDED: We're cooler on Friday, with clouds and north wind keeping high temperatures in the low 50s Friday afternoon. Clouds will break up through the day, leaving us clear by the overnight hours. High pressure sliding in from the north will calm winds, and under clear skies, already chilly air will effectively sink to the surface. This will likely be the first freeze of the season for many in the east and north. Mean low temperatures are falling into the 20s in the newest data, suggesting a greater than 80-90% chance of a freeze in low-lying rural areas. In other places further south and west where elevation is higher, we may not be as cold and a freeze is less of a slam-dunk. Still, a frost is likely area-wide. We'll be nearly as cold again on Sunday morning. Highs on Saturday will again be capped in the 50s, then we warm back into the 60s next week with dry weather forecast.
