Tracking storms and gusty winds overnight into Tuesday

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain and storms late. Some storms could produce gusty winds through daybreak. Lows in the lower 60s.

TOMORROW: Windy with rain and storms through late afternoon, exiting from west to east. Highs in the lower 70s.

EXTENDED: I'll be tracking a cold front that will bring overnight storms and rain, likely after midnight through Tuesday afternoon. The most likely zone for severe weather tonight will be west of Highway 65 as we won't have much instability here locally to supplement the great amount of wind shear. Tomorrow, we'll see higher wind shear across Mid-Missouri during the early afternoon, but morning rain and clouds will likely limit instability needed to sustain severe storms. Either way, we could see a few more robust storms overnight into Tuesday with a level 1/5 severe risk blanketing the area. Storms enter the western part of Mid-Missouri between 1-3 a.m. And press east through sunrise. We could see an uptick in storms east of Highway 63 from about 11:00 through 3:00 p.m., with gusty winds getting to 30-40 mph. Rain amounts will total around an inch. Temperatures fall behind this system with lingering clouds wrapping around low pressure between Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures fall into the upper 50s for highs on Friday and Saturday, and if we can limit clouds, there could be frost in spots over the weekend in the mornings.
