COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Downed electric lines closed westbound Interstate 70 near Columbia early Monday afternoon.

The road closure was reported at about 12:20 p.m., according to a note posted to the Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map. The closure was just east of the Midway/Highway 40 exit, the agency reported.

Traffic started moving again at about 1:40 p.m., but the significant backup was still slowing westbound traffic in west Columbia.

Boone County emergency dispatchers wrote in an alert that the closure was caused by downed electrical lines. A Boone Electric Cooperative spokesperson told ABC 17 News that he had no information about the downed lines.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F Sgt. Kyle Green said a construction crane knocked the lines down. He said no injuries were reported.
