Mizzou completes comeback to keep postseason hopes alive

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After falling behind just minutes into the game, the Tigers rallied to avoid elimination by beating Texas A&M 3-2.

With just two games left in the season, Mizzou sat four points out of an SEC Tournament berth, meaning a loss would guarantee they cannot qualify for the post season.

The Tigers aspirations were quickly dampened, as the Aggies struck first in just the fifth minute of the game. Ireland Churchill poked one into the bottom corner off of a set piece, and would find a second less than three minutes later. Just 10 minutes into the game, Mizzou had fallen behind 2-0.

But getting behind early only put the team into survival mode. Head coach Stefanie Golan and company dialed up the pressure, controlling the remainder of the first half, and threatening multiple times without the ball leaving the attacking half.

In the 24th minute the Tigers finally punched back with a world class strike from Taryn Chance to cut the deficit in half. The run didn't stop there though. On the final kick of the first half, Freshman Rylie Morse found the bottom right corner of a goal on a corner kick from Emily Derucki.

Heading out of the break, the momentum still sat with the home side. Less than a minute into the second, Brianna Beuls punched in the go ahead to take the team's first lead of the match. The defense would continue to hold strong for the remaining 44 minutes, as the team picked up its second conference win of the year, 3-2.

With the win, the Tigers completed their largest comeback in SEC play since 2016.

Now Mizzou moves up to 13th in the conference standings, one point behind LSU who is in the final qualifying spot. The two Tigers are set to face off in the last game of the regular season, meaning coach Golan and company have it all to play for in the finale.

Up Next - Mizzou and LSU are set to kick off at Audrey J. Walton Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 12:00 p.m.
