Riley’s Mobile Home Park residents regain water after 10-day outage

MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Some residents at Riley’s Mobile Home Park had running water in their homes again Monday after going about 10 days without service.

The City of Moberly had shut off the park’s water supply after discovering raw sewage contamination.  During the outage, United Way of Randolph County donated ready-to-eat meals, bottled water and hygiene products to park residents. The organization also set up portable toilets.

Scott McGarvey, a city spokesperson, said city utilities staff met with the contractor Monday morning to review the repaired system. He said the city is requiring the mobile home park owner to complete a long-term maintenance plan for the park’s water system.

“The City is grateful for the community support these residents received and their patience as we sought a resolution to this issue,” McGarvey said.

Contractor J. Frank told ABC 17 News that the system was chlorinated and tested before service was restored.

Frank said crews dug to reach the main water line and flushed the system. On Monday, workers were pressure-testing the lines and checking for leaks.

He said crews worked until about 9:30 p.m. each night before stopping so residents could sleep.

Frank said he was glad to restore service to residents.

“It came back clear … everything’s clear, nothing in it and we're good,” Frank said.

Resident Randy Rudkin discovered his water was back on around noon Monday. He said he was glad to be able to take a normal shower and do laundry at home again after the outage disrupted his daily life.

“I wish it wouldn't have took this long,” Rudkin said.
