COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force 1 will not be deployed south to assist in Hurricane Isaias recovery, Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Chuck Doss said Saturday morning.

As the hurricane approached the U.S. Gulf Coast on Friday, BCFPD announced that Task Force 1 had been put on “alert” by FEMA, should federal assistance be requested.

“Team members and specialized equipment are prepared for potential deployment,” a Friday press release read.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Doss said FEMA canceled the "alert" status.

Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday night as a Category 2 storm. It packed winds up to 105 mph before weakening to a Category 1 and then to a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday. The initial impact left hundreds of thousands of people across Alabama and the Florida Panhandle without power.

Fallen trees claimed the lives of at least two people -- one in Birmingham, Alabama, and one in the Pensacola, Florida area.

Doss said Task Force 1 remains ready and able to respond to the Gulf states should the situation change.

In its last deployment, Task Force 1 provided support for water rescues at Texas' Rio Grande River after it flooded in July 2026.
