Fire crews report mobile home fire on Parker Street in Columbia has been put out; investigators on scene

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A fire at a mobile home occurred on the 1500 block of Vandiver Sunday night near Parker Street and Garnet Avenue.

Sergeant Matthew Nichols with the Columbia Police Department said a call came in at 8:40 p.m., and the Columbia Fire Department entered the residential structure within 30 minutes to put out the interior fire.

ABC 17 News arrived on the scene around 9:20 p.m., and Battalion Chief Roger Mertenmeyer said the fire was put out at that time. He said they do not believe residents were inside the house when the fire broke out, and nobody was injured.

Crime scene tape was put up, and Mertenmeyer said it is because officers are still investigating what started the fire. City of Columbia utilities also arrived to investigate the cause.

Around 10:15 p.m., the Crime Scene Investigators' truck arrived to take evidence. The fire marshal was also on scene.

"We do have the fire marshal here, along with our crime scene investigators, just simply to do evidence preservation and try and determine was an accidental or was there an element of criminal culpability," said Nichols.

Nichols said they are still unaware of the cause of the fire.
