Tracking widespread showers through tonight, cooldown this weekend

THIS AFTERNOON: Rain chances continue to increase as heavy showers spread across the area, with a few rumbles of thunder possible. Temperatures remain mild in the 70s.

TONIGHT: Take it slow on roads this evening as scattered showers continue through sunset. Rain totals could reach up to 2 inches to the northwest in places like Brunswick, Marshall, and Macon. Columbia and Jeff City can expect between an inch to 2 inches of rainfall, with below an inch of rain to the southeast.

EXTENDED: Rain may linger near I-44 through Friday morning, but showers and clouds clear most of the area quickly. Much cooler temperatures are forecast this weekend, with highs in the upper 60s to around 70 on Friday and Saturday. Bring a jacket to the Mizzou homecoming parade, with Saturday morning temps in the low 50s. Skies remain sunny into next week, with mild fall temperatures in the 70s for the first week of October.
