Jefferson City gets $10 million from DNR for wastewater collection system improvements

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City will get $10 million in financial assistance from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for upgrades to its wastewater collection system, a Wednesday press release from the DNR says.

The release says the city expects the funding to cover the entire project.

“The completed project is expected to reduce sanitary sewer overflows by increasing capacity to handle peak flow events,” the release says. “The improvements will extend the wastewater system’s life and efficiency so it can continue serving the city well into the future.”

Funding comes from a $10 million loan through the DNR’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The DNR expects it to save the city $4.2 million in low-interest over 20 years.

The project is expected to be completed by August 2027.
