Tracking a hot end to the work week and a few storm chances

TODAY: Wednesday starts with a chance for showers and thunderstorms, mostly north of I-70. Temperatures will start in the 60s and 70s before climbing to near 90. Heat indexes are likely to reach 100-105 south of I-70, where a Heat Advisory is in effect. Much of the day will be dry, if not the entire day, for many near Columbia and Jefferson City. While morning rain is focused in the north, there is a chance for spotty showers and storms in the south near I-44 in the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Temperatures remain warm overnight. We return to the 80s by sunset, and into the 70s after midnight. Spotty showers should be largely driven by daytime heating and weaken at sunset.

EXTENDED: Thursday is forecast to be drier, but isolated afternoon storms are possible. Skies are forecast to be mostly sunny on Friday before clouds increase on Saturday. A Heat Advisory is in effect generally south of I-70 until Friday evening. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s each afternoon through Saturday, before a cold front arrives, bringing a chance of storms and a slow cooldown into the 80s Sunday and Monday, if not the 70s. Highs are forecast in the 70s on Tuesday.
