Tracking dangerous heat this afternoon, spotty storms tonight

THIS AFTERNOON: Dangerously hot and humid, with a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees. Spotty storms may develop by the evening, bringing heavy downpours and possible strong winds.

TONIGHT: Rain chances continue to the north overnight in places like Brunswick, Macon, Paris, and perhaps Moberly. Lows remain warm in the lower 70s with partly cloudy skies.

EXTENDED: Showers and storms continue into Tuesday night, mostly north of I-70 where a front is stalled. Over a half inch to an inch of rain is possible north of Hwy 24 by Wednesday morning. Rain will slowly exit early Wednesday, and dangerous heat will continue midweek, with a heat index around 100 degrees through Thursday. Highs remain hot in the upper 80s and low 90s through Friday and Saturday as well. The front will finally move through the area late this weekend, bringing down temperatures early next week.
