Tracking dangerous heat and storms today

THIS MORNING: Sunny and warm, with temperatures climbing quickly from the mid-70s to the upper 80s.

TODAY: Mostly sunny and dangerously hot, with highs in the low 90s and a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees. Spotty storms may develop late in the afternoon and evening, bringing isolated heavy downpours and strong winds.

EXTENDED: Showers and storms continue into Tuesday night, mostly north of I-70 where a front is stalled. Over a half inch to an inch of rain is possible north of Hwy 24 by Wednesday morning. Rain will slowly exit early Wednesday, and dangerous heat will continue midweek, with a heat index around 100 degrees through Thursday. The front will finally move through the area sometime this weekend, bringing down temperatures early next week.
