Tracking rain and storms overnight, soggy morning commute

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain becoming more widespread overnight. Lows in the upper 60s. 1-2" of rain possible.

TOMORROW: Widespread rain and storms early, becoming partly cloudy and much cooler with highs in the upper 70s to around 80.

EXTENDED: Temperatures reached near 90 this afternoon with a heat index in the mid-90s, but the front continues to sag south this afternoon with rain following behind. There's a small window for a few scattered storms ahead of the front through about sunset, and this window would be the most favorable for any isolated wind gusts. After that, rain ramps up after midnight behind the front through about mid-morning Thursday as low level winds draw more moisture into the region. We could see pockets of heavy rain with 2"/hour rainfall rates near sunrise, but the risk of widespread flooding are low given how dry we have been. That said, things will be soggy and we may find some ponding on the roads for the morning commute. Rain shifts south through the day, with the back edge out of Columbia and Jefferson City by mid-afternoon. Rain amounts will range between 1-2". We'll be cooler and clear for Friday morning with lows in the lower 60s. Friday looks excellent with highs in the low 80s and sunshine, along with dry weather for high school football games. We could see another round of rain/rumbles on Saturday and Sunday as a few disturbances slide by, but plan on more dry time than not. Next week looks warm to start, but it could get active again with another front rolling through between Monday and Tuesday, bringing temperatures back down to near average in the low to mid-80s.
