Tracking heavy rain tonight and a late-week cooldown

THIS AFTERNOON: Increasing rain chances, with scattered showers and storms into the late afternoon and evening. An isolated strong storm could produce high winds up to 60 mph. Highs climb into the mid-90s ahead of the rain.

TONIGHT: Rain will become heavier and more widespread overnight, and flooding is possible in low-lying areas. Lows fall to the low 70s.

EXTENDED: Take it slow on the roads tonight and early tomorrow, as widespread showers and storms continue through Thursday morning. Between an inch to two inches of rain is possible for much of the area, with some isolated higher amounts. Rain will slowly dwindle throughout the day Thursday, leaving us cooler in the 70s. We'll see more sunshine and seasonal temperatures on Friday in the low 80s, but an active pattern is expected this weekend, bringing more rain chances and a slight warmup to the upper 80s.
